LOOKING GLASS HOUSE
The home is located on a downslope site in the Oakland Hills with expansive views of the Bay. DDB built a minimal and contemporary home which celebrates the Bay views – using as much glass as possible while maintaining privacy from neighbors. The dramatic views are immediately celebrated through the dining room with glass on both sides allowing views through the home. Upon entering the home, the living room projects out, cantilevering off the hillside to float above the slope below.
Primary living spaces are kept on the main floor in an open plan layout, with stepped roofs defining space and hierarchy between programs. Across from the living room, a large and secluded primary suite echoes the cantilever of the living room over the hillside. Additional bedrooms and a gym/office sit on the lower floor, opening onto a shared patio which creates a terraced effect with the balcony above, elegantly spilling down the slope.
